APPIA ANTICA & CATACOMBS

The Appia Antica and Catacombs tour will take you to the place of the Roman countryside that seems timeless, where the sense of peace reigns supreme!

The appointment will be in front of the Mausoleum of Cecilia Metella, the symbol par excellence of the ancient Appian Way. This tomb, built for a Roman noblewoman, was transformed into a CASTRUM in the 14th century. In fact, it is thanks to the noble Caetani family if, even today, it is still in this perfect state of conservation.

We will walk, then, next to the CAPO DI BOVE complex. Here, in the late imperial era, the Circus of Maxentius was located. This private entertainment place could seat up to 10,000 spectators and also included his villa and son’s grave. After this archaeological area we will be not far from the Catacombs of San Sebastian. In this place the bones of Saints Peter and Paul, Patrons of Rome, were hidden for centuries. An underground  visit to discover this sacred world will follow.

Before moving on to the last stage we will make a quick visit to the church of San Sebastian to contemplate the Bernini’s Salvator Mundi; other works of the XVII century master can be found in our tour the BORGHESE GALLERY.

The last highlight will be the Catacombs of San Callistus. Here we will follow you personally and discover the historical and religious riches of the largest Christian burial complex open to the public.
